Atletico hopes Simeone could follow Alex Ferguson’s trail
Atletico Madrid president, Enrique Cerezo, made Sir Alex Ferguson a reference for coach Diego Simeone. He hopes Simeone can make Los Rojiblancos a respected club.
Simeone has just renewed his contract at Atletico until 2020. The president also hopes that the Argentine coach brings great success to Atletico Madrid.
“We would be happy if Simeone became Sir Alex Ferguson in the Atletico version,” Cerezo said as quoted by Marca.
“Our future looks very good and promising,” Cerezo said.
Ferguson is a reference for many clubs related to his brilliant achievement delivering Manchester United as one of the best teams on the Continent. The man from Scotland is able to achieve 49 degrees for 27 years of service with the Red Devils.
Simeone obviously has a long way to match Fergie’s achievements. Cerezo believes Simeone will be able to bring Atletico into one of the most successful clubs on the Continent.
“We have a big challenge of making our new stadium a dreaded castle,” Cerezo said.
Atletico does have a new stadium with the name Wanda Metropolitano. The stadium they inaugurated on September 16, 2017.
